Throughout December I am Kickin’ It Old Skool with Jamie Ridler, Shannon Ridler, and a whole group of other creative bloggers. We’re bringing back the days when blogging was fun and not just another chore on the social media frontier. Join in any time! The more the merrier.

In my bag...

As much as I am drawn to purses and bags and, generally, things that hold other things, I've never much liked carrying them.

Now that I'm a mom, however, a large purse or diaper bag has been a necessity for some time, and I rotate between several.

On most days I carry a large purse containing:

  • wallet

  • phone

  • diaper supplies

  • small notebook or journal

  • several pens

  • chapstick and other uninteresting incidentals

  • camera (even though in most cases I'll forget I have it and just use my phone for pictures)

On work days and playdate days I use the M.O.M. bag pictured above, named for how a few fellow moms and I refer to ourselves- Moms On a Mission. Yes, we got matching bags. My husband calls them our dork bags.

Today was a work day. After dropping my son off at nursery school, I headed to a friend's office to focus on editing for a bit. The purse wasn't going to cut it.

So my dork bag... I mean M.O.M. bag... held the usual plus these:

  • laptop and charger

  • binder of editing notes

  • travel cup of juice

  • a package of mini-donuts that I picked up on my way to the office

Now, I'm curious. Do you have different bags for different things? Do you use the same bag everyday? What do you always carry with you?

  1. Cute bag! I love the bright purple flowers.

  2. What do I carry in my bag?
Wallet makeup (why not sure because I always just use my lip gloss, but having it just in case helps with my anxiety lol)
Epi-pens for my poor kids benadryl
    Anti bacterial wipes.....
Bags are my downfall I remember a shopping trip one day to target and bought 5 bags (bk before kids) yup 5 at once because I needed to have them all at once
And I am also a member of the dork bag lol

Confirm Your Humanity

I type my email address into the box and click. Another screen pops up: “Confirm your humanity.” I check a box and it is done. Humanity confirmed. But I wonder what am I doing in my life today to confirm my humanity?

What It’s Really Like to Have Anxiety

“People who need help sometimes look a lot like people who don’t need help.” -Glennon Doyle
I can’t say with any certainty that I am viewed as having it all together. I have, however, been complimented for my ability to remain calm or to calm others. In my days as a project manager, it was a strength often highlighted in my performance reviews. One supervisor actually used to mistake my calm attitude for a lack of understanding the urgency of the issue, until he learned I very much understand the urgency, but can’t address it if I get frantic.

During my application process to become a Hospice volunteer, the coordinator told me after speaking to my three references that she had never seen a single word used so consistently to describe someone. What word is that, I asked. “Calm. Every single person commented on how calm you are.”

Calm. That is a marvelous state.

Imagine how it must feel to be known for being calm and to hold a diagnosis of anxiety. It sometimes feels that my entire sel…
